PLASTIRAS’S LATEST SPEECH: On Sunday evening (July 5), a dinner was held at the Averoff Restaurant by the EPEK party branches of Athens and Piraeus in honor of former prime minister Mr Nikolaos Plastiras. After his toast, Mr Plastiras made a long political speech, proclaiming his decision to embark on new political struggles in order to carry out his political platform. He emphasized that he was able to show to all those of little faith that not only is he in a position to do so but that he has the strength to fight to make his views known. STORMS AND HAIL: Thessaloniki, 6 – This afternoon a powerful storm swept through the city with hail and lightning, resulting in the flooding of roads and the basements of homes and stores, causing considerable damage. Bolts of lightning caused fires to break out in four areas of the city. The fire brigade struggled throughout the afternoon to pump water out of basements. 22 BILLION DRACHMAS OF DAMAGES: Larissa, 6 – Damages caused in the area around Tyrnavos by the recent storm in which huge hailstones fell are expected to be in the order of up to 22 billion drachmas. THE US DOLLAR: Purchase price 29,900 drachmas, sale price 30,100 drachmas. COMEDY PERFORMANCE: Performances of the wonderful comedy «The Minister on Tour» by Weber are continuing with great success at the Katerina Theater in Kyriakou Square.
