A tough test for new rectors

Looking at recent photographs of the interiors of most university buildings across the country inevitably triggers feelings of shame and concern.

The trash, the vandalism and the zones of immunity which are characteristic of these institutions are symptoms of the deep decline dogging Greece’s universities.

There is fresh hope however that the new rectors who were recently elected with the aim of finally putting an end to the mess will summon the necessary courage to see the changes through.

The government, society, but also the parents who shoulder the financial cost of preparing their children ahead of university entry exams must demand change and support the new rectors in their efforts to make it happen.
