GREEKS AND JEWS: Jerusalem, September 14 – The Israeli Archaeological Association excavations at the great necropolis of Beit Shearim, near Haifa, have uncovered the mausoleum of Aidesios, the head of the Council of Elders of Antioch, and the rabbis Simeon and Gamaliel, members of the council, which was based at Beit Shearim during the second and third centuries AD. (…) There are Greek inscriptions alongside those in Hebrew and Aramaic, indicating that after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, Jewish culture was more deeply influenced by that of Greek culture than was originally believed. 3D CINEMASCOPE SCREEN: In the entrance to the arcade leading to the Attikon movie theater, huge advertisements have been posted depicting the gigantic, three-dimensional Cinemascope screen that Athenian audiences will be able to enjoy this coming winter. Among the films to be shown using this modern system are the biblical epic «The Robe,» and «How to Marry a Millionaire» starring Marilyn Monroe. LUCIANO TAGLIOLI: The singer Luciano Taglioli has kindly offered to give a performance to benefit the victims of the earthquake in the Ionian Islands. The concert is to take place on Tuesday evening (September 15) at the Dore Theater. Also to appear are Sophia Vembo, Nikos Gounaris, Angelos Grimanis, Sasha Dario.
