KARAMANLIS-THESSALONIKI: Thessaloniki, 24 – The minister for public works, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, is reviewing public works being carried out in the city. As in Athens (…) so in Greece’s second city, thanks to the interest shown by Mr Karamanlis, public works are being undertaken that will truly change the face of the city and for which the city’s residents will be eternally grateful to the Macedonian minister. (…) Words are not as important as deeds for the minister. The road to the airport and to Michaniona is already finished. (…) Another project of great importance for Thessaloniki is the widening of the city’s waterfront by filling in the seabed along a distance of 1,400 meters. This project will create a land surface of about 65,000 square meters. (…) The new coast road to be constructed on it will be 1,400 meters long and 45 meters wide. (…) Also nearing completion is the general repair of the road from Vardari Square to the new railway station. GREECE-ITALY: Rome, 24 – A complete silence has descended on the first real talks between the Greek prime minister, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos and (his Italian counterpart) Mr Giuseppe Pella. KAISARIANI: The Interior Ministry has announced that during the third and final vote for a new mayor of Kaisariani, after the ousting of the communist mayor Manolidis, Mr Dimitris Petimezas was elected.
