CHEAP BREAD: The government announced yesterday evening a reduction in the price of bread, both white and brown, by 300 drachmas per oka (about 1.2 kilos) as of next Monday (October 5) as well as an imminent reduction in the price of pasta. MARKEZINIS ACTs FOR KARAMANLIS: Yesterday afternoon, Acting Prime Minister Mr Spyros Markezinis (Ed. note: The prime minister, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos, was away in Italy) had a meeting with the ministers Karamanlis, Kapsalis and Papayiannis. Afterward, Mr Markezinis announced that joint decisions to fund the Aliakmon, Axios and Acheloos dams had been signed by himself and the ministers for finance and public works. AIRMEN’S TRIAL: The Athens military review tribunal is continuing its examination of an appeal by 11 air force officers and NCOs against various sentences imposed by an earlier court. THEATER: The premiere of Pinero’s «Second Mrs Tanqueray» took place at the Kotopouli Theater yesterday evening, starring Dimitris Myrat, Melina Mercouri and Anna Synodinou. VENICE INSTITUTE: The Education Ministry (on behalf of the respective minister, Mr C. Kallias) is drawing up a bill on the foundation of an Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice to advance the study of Italy’s rich resources in Byzantine monuments and archives.
