The importance of giving back
People who are moved by the spirit of the holidays to reach out and help their fellow man in need are doing a fine thing. It is truly touching to see how much is actually being given to people who are suffering and struggling, as well as to thousands of refugees who have landed on our shores as they flee war and strife in the search of a safer future.
We must also commend the efforts of private foundations, nongovernmental organizations and individuals who are doing everything in their power to give as much assistance or offer as much relief as possible.
This is the first time in many, many years that we are seeing a real difference being made on a massive scale by civil society. It is our duty, therefore, to also lend a hand in this effort and, more importantly, to teach the younger generation the importance of giving back.
