Division vs consensus

It is not easy for any one of Greece’s political parties currently in opposition to trust Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras when he calls for national consensus.

This is because while the leader of the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition calls on political parties to reach some kind of understanding, while also using explosive, divisive language reminiscent of that used during periods in Greek history that we would much rather forget about.

In this light, calls for reaching consensus and understanding come across solely as an unconcealed strategical tactics.

While there is no doubt that Greece needs consensus more than ever before, that will certainly not be achieved in such a manner.
