Divisive doublespeak
The doublespeak that is so prevalent across the board in the coalition government and on so many different issues is seriously hampering any chance of stability finally being restored in Greece.
One moment we hear government officials talking about the importance of the country’s political parties reaching consensus on some of the major issues plaguing Greece and the next we hear deeply divisive comments coming from the same lips. One moment the government appears to be extending its hand for an agreement. The next, it openly lambasts anyone who has any connection to the leadership of opposition party New Democracy simply to give the impression that it is the one calling the shots.
Real consensus requires real honesty; without it, the signals the government is ostensibly trying to send are nothing but empty gestures.
