Greece at the bottom

A growing number of studies and evaluation reports carried out by international research centers tend to confirm what the Greek people actually know and experience firsthand.

Now the German Bertelsmann Foundation has ranked Greece bottom among 41 countries in terms of its future viability with regard to economic policies.

Based on the foundation’s annual Sustainable Governance Indicators (SGI) which examine the future viability of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and European Union member-states, Greece was also ranked 40th with regard to the administration’s executive capacity, and 28th with regard to the quality of its democracy. The country also received poor marks for social policy.

Sure, it is easier to blame our woes on outsiders. The question is: What will it take for the Greek political class, the media and society to finally acknowledge that the source of our misfortunes lies closer to home?
