Muddling along

A proposal put forward by a so-called national dialogue special committee, established to put forward recommendations for improving the Greek educational system, and particularly at the secondary level, has been rejected.

The reason is that it was considered unfeasible given the technical and economic constraints being faced by the government and also because the union representing the country’s public school teachers (OLME) simply did not like it.

The Education Ministry is now ostensibly looking for a new solution to tackle the same problem: the dire state of secondary education. What this means in practical terms is that students will have to wait until the ministry cobbles together some kind of plan and education officials finally reach a decision to implement it.

In the meantime, the Greek education system will continue to muddle along and the only real victims will be more generations of children.
