Unacceptable practices

The cost from the theft of electrical power has reached dizzying heights.

And, as always, it’s the conscientious citizens who pay their bills, the ones that wouldn’t think of stealing electricity, that are paying the heavy price.

The phenomenon of power theft, and the effort to contain it, was brought to the table by Greece’s international creditors as it is considered one of the factors that have put the sustainability of the Public Power Corporation at risk, as it teeters on the brink of bankruptcy.

According to the Greek energy regulators, power theft accounts for about 170 million euros in lost income each year.

It’s high time that something was done to root out this ghastly phenomenon, as it now appears to have taken on the characteristics of a habit.

And this, surely, is not the sort of behavior becoming of a European country.
