DEMONSTRATIONS: Pupils in the higher classes of Piraeus high schools gathered yesterday in various parts of the city to hold patriotic demonstrations, showing their desire to see Cyprus be handed over to Greece. (…) In the afternoon, more protests were held, which were repeated later but without incident apart from a single occasion in which stones were thrown at a police car. (…) Demonstrations and scuffles took place in Drama. (…) High school pupils in Xanthi also held demonstrations without incident. WAY OPENS FOR KARAMANLIS: New York, 2 – News agencies have attributed the resignation of Coordination Minister Spyros Markezinis (…) to his disagreement with Greek government policy on the Cyprus issue and his call for the resignation of Foreign Minister Stefanos Stefanopoulos and other ministers not favorable to him, particularly the successful public works minister, Mr Constantine Karamanlis. THANOS KAPSALIS: Mr Thanos Kapsalis was sworn in yesterday as new coordination minister. DIVISIVE TRAIN: The suburbs are protesting at the extension of the electric urban railway above ground, splitting the city in two.
