Will we ever become civilized enough to be able to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord without loud bangs?» VARVARESSOS INTERVIEW: Washington – The Greek professor and economic adviser of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Mr Kyriakos Varvaressos, in an exclusive interview with Kathimerini correspondent Ilias P. Dimitrakopoulos, spoke at length on what is an important issue for Greece – the part that private, particularly American, capital plays in funding economic development programs. (Mr Varvaressos said:) «…Foreign private capital does not appear to be going toward funding the economic growth of the poorest countries. Economic progress in these countries will depend on the efforts they themselves make to improve the conditions in which they live and the support they will have from international organizations and economically stronger nations.»
