FIRST POSTWAR COINS: Sixteen million coins of 5, 2 and 1 drachmas have been delivered by ship and handed over to the Bank of Greece. The coins were ordered from a French mint and more will be delivered soon. Their date of circulation has not yet been decided. JOBLESS MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE: An 18-year-old man who was out of work and living temporarily in Petroupolis, tried to commit suicide on the rock of the Areopagus, on the hill of the Pnyx, by drinking a strong dose of DDT. He was taken to the General State Hospital in a coma. AMERICAN AID:Yesterday morning at a ceremony in Piraeus, Welfare Minister Mr Solomonidis took delivery of 227 tons of butter donated by the US government for the needs of welfare foundations. The minister thanked the US ambassador, Mr Cavendish Cannon, for his government’s generous gift. GLEZOS: The Piraeus deputy prosecutor, Mr Karapiperis, and the prosecution secretary, Mr Takis Focas, have left for the island of Aegina to announce a ruling granting a reprieve to Emmanouil Glezos and his release from prison.
