Pockets of impunity
Violent clashes between club officials and groups of organized fans have once again exposed the rotten structure of professional sports in Greece.
Incidents of this nature create the impression that certain powerful figures enjoy a certain kind of impunity. Also, they expose the existence of certain pockets of immunity. It is as if the state has given up on its obligation to enforce the law.
The government has a mandate to purge sports of this sort of phenomena.
