BRITISH FLEET – ARGOSTOLI: The following announcement has been issued by the British Embassy: «With regard to reports in the Greek press on the cancellation of the annual visit by ships of the British fleet to Greek ports, it is announced that the original program for the summer itinerary for the British Mediterranean Fleet included the customary visits to Greek ports and the holding of boat races at Argostoli, on the island of Cephalonia. The Greek government expressed the view that it would be preferable to postpone the visit as there was a risk of regrettable incidents due to the timing. (Ed. note: the Cyprus issue). The recommendation was made to postpone the visit for a month. The British government believes that this recommendation ignores the support that the British navy gave Greece during the catastrophic earthquakes (in Cephalonia and other Ionian Islands) and finds it inconceivable that there would be any outbursts of protest against the British boats or their crews. NIKOS KOUNDOUROS: Venice, 2 – The Greek film «Magical City» was shown today on the unofficial program of the film festival and made a great impression, so it is highly likely it will be shown as part of the official program.
