KARAMANLIS: The counselor at the US Embassy and Mrs Alfred Almer gave a New Year’s Eve ball attended by the Minister for Public Works and Transport and Mrs Constantine Karamanlis, the US Ambassador and Mrs Cavendish Cannon, General and Mrs Will Quinn and others. AND THE OTHERS: New Year’s Eve dinner at the flower-filled reception halls of the Hotel Grande Bretagne attracted a number of Athenians, including Minister to the Prime Minister and Mrs Georgios Rallis, Minister for Trade and Mrs Leon Makkas, Mr and Mrs Sophocles Venizelos (…), Mr and Mrs K. Papayiannis and Mr and Mrs Petros Garoufalias. CYPRUS: Prime Minister Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos assured the ethnarch of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios, during his meeting with him yesterday, that the Greek government will continue the struggle for the self-determination of the Cypriot people and that it will raise the Cyprus issue once again at the next UN General Assembly. Makarios said he will wage an even more intense struggle for freedom, leading the Cypriot people, because of his experience of the United Nations and the intransigence of Great Britain.
