MASS TEACHER RESIGNATION: The growing struggle by high school teachers to improve their financial position has entered a new phase. The high school teachers’ federation (OLME) yesterday posted 20 packages (as many as there are education regions) containing the resignations of 4,100 of the total 5,157 high school teachers (500 did not submit resignations, 200 were on sabbatical leave and 350 were either ill, fulfilling their military service or completing other obligations). According to an announcement from OLME, the resignations did not mean a cessation of lessons, but a warning to the government (of Alexandros Papagos) that the teachers are determined to fight for their rights. VAN FLEET: Thessaloniki, 21 – Yesterday Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Mr Panayiotis Kanellopoulos arrived here from Athens accompanied by the government’s official guest, General Van Fleet, and the leader of the American military mission in Greece, General Barthe. Right after their arrival they visited the Third Army headquarters, where they reviewed the infantry brigades and watched the men parade.
