RUMORS: The Athens General Security Headquarters is close to apprehending a gang which a few days ago was spreading scurrilous rumors aimed at upsetting public opinion. First of all, it spread the rumor that King Paul had died of a stroke, because he had not attended a session of the Academy, and then that the prime minister, Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos, had died suddenly in Switzerland and that the government was keeping his death a secret until after yesterday’s national day celebrations. The latest rumors were the most persistent. After questioning a number of people who had heard the reports, security police arrested a person in the act of spreading the rumor, but who refused to reveal the source of these unfounded reports. The detainee is being held in strict isolation until it is ascertained whether he himself is a member of the group, or until he reveals the identities of its members. ONASSIS: London, 26 – Great Britain and the United States, following a request from British and American insurance companies, have put pressure on Peru to return a fine of 1,071,000 pounds sterling imposed on the shipowner Aristotle Onassis three months ago.
