VIRGINIA BLEND MORE HARMFUL: There are clear indications that Greek tobacco and other eastern varieties are undoubtedly less harmful than the Virginia tobacco varieties, regarding the risk of both cancer and circulatory diseases. These effects are to be evaluated scientifically, according to an announcement after a meeting between Trade Minister Leon Makkas; the president of the Anti-Cancer Institute, Mr Aristides Kouzis; Professor N. Tsaboulas of Athens University Medical School, and Trade Ministry officials. EXTRATERRITORIAL RIGHTS: (From a commentary in Kathimerini): «There is no doubt that negotiations on the review of the conditions of extraterritoriality in the contract for the American bases will be properly concluded. In all countries, there are certain privileges for members of foreign political and military missions and naturally these should also be in force here. Any exceptions are fated to offend the people’s national pride and lead to misunderstandings that are harmful to relations between friends and allied nations, which should be maintained at the highest levels possible.»
