WELFARE STATE: The general secretary of the Ministry for Welfare, Mr Mandellos, has announced that since the law on extending social security to farmers was passed, preparations have continued apace to implement it. Already, pharmaceuticals and general medical supplies have been collected for use at local medical centers. It is hoped that within two months, at the most, over 200 doctors will have been appointed and assigned to their posts. The appointment of doctors is expected to be completed within six months. Credits of 50 million drachmas have already been put at the Welfare Ministry’s disposal. KAZANTZAKIS: «The Last Temptation of Christ» by Nikos Kazantzakis has just been published. The book has led to much debate in both the international and Greek press. It is in circulation from Difros Publishers. AUNT LENA: A book by Mrs Antigone Metaxa has just been published by Alikiotis Publications and is available at all bookshops. It is the best gift for children.
