PPC PROJECTS: The management of the Public Power Corporation (PPC) has approved the construction of a second hydroelectric plant on the Edessaio (Agra) River, and has submitted the design to Minister for Trade and Industry Panayis Papaligouras for approval. The 22,000-kilowatt-capacity project will be built near Edessa and completed within 25 months. It will utilize the natural flow of the river and Lake Vegoritis (Ostrovo), part of which is currently used by the Agra hydroelectric works. The entire survey was carried out by PPC without the involvement of foreign contractors, and will be built entirely by local contractors. Preliminary work has already begun and the main construction phase will begin as soon as the minister approves the survey. It has also been announced that PPC’s management has completed the draft of a preliminary plan for municipal lighting in the city of Thessaloniki, which is to be submitted to the municipal council.The municipality will hand over its existing outdated installations to PPC which will construct a new electric light network for the city’s streets and squares.
