THURSDAY Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis visits Lisbon. To tomorrow. President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias will meet with the Economic and Social Committee (OKE) at 1.30 p.m. At 2.30 p.m. he will have talks with Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis. Defense Minister Evangelos Meimarakis to attend NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels. To tomorrow. President of Synaspismos Left Coalition Alekos Alavanos visits Kavala prefecture. Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Ben Slay, director of the UN Development Program Regional Center for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, will sign a five-year cooperation agreement at 2 p.m. in Athens. EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Vladimir Spidla visits Athens. State hospital workers (POEDHN) in Athens and Piraeus will hold a six-hour work stoppage, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to press financial and social security demands. At 11.30 a.m. protesters will demonstrate outside the Health Ministry. Health employees in the region will stage a 24-hour strike. The Geography Department of Harokopeio University is hosting a conference titled «Environment and Human Safety in Southeastern Europe,» at 10 a.m. on the university’s premises.
