The day after the catastrophe
After the devastating forest fires that have ravaged thousands of hectares and killed two people, empty words and apologies by state officials are completely pointless. There is only one thing to be done: We need to study and evaluate the performance of those that were assigned to protect all that has been reduced to ash. What went wrong? What must we do to prevent a similar disaster from striking in the future? Some people failed and must be replaced. Not because they have to pay for their mistakes – that would in any case be impossible. They must be sacked and replaced because they are capable of repeating their dreadful mistakes. Or, more accurately, because they are incapable of doing their jobs.
