Greek sport needs a cleanup

One can only wonder what the president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee understood from what the International Olympic Committee president said in Beijing when he claimed that Jacques Rogge said Greece is a world champion in doping, a statement that Rogge has denied. The doping issue is huge and it cannot be solved by prepackaged statements nor when the country’s Olympic committee is headed by someone who has been found guilty of offenses in a Greek court of law. Everyone knows that Greek sport needs to be purged of this scourge and this must begin right at the top. This is the only way to show everyone who is a party to this crime and to send a message to the sports world that the state will not make any compromises when it comes to the letter of the law. We all owe Greek sports a great deal. The state owes it even more: a new beginning, without shadows, misunderstandings or previous convictions. This is the only way that we can hope to go to London in four years’ time with our heads held high.
