BLOODSHED ON CYPRUS: Nicosia – Since last night, the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA) has been attacking the British rulers of Cyprus. The Cypriot patriots have been bombing as well as firing automatic weapons against the English tyrants and many British soldiers have been injured. Schoolchildren and students staged demonstrations in Limassol and Morphou against the British plan for Cyprus. Finally, a British woman was killed and another injured (both of them wives of British military personnel) in the main shopping street of Famagusta. Meanwhile, EOKA issued proclamations today accusing the British armed forces of using cowardly measures against the Cypriot population. «While EOKA respects and abides by the rules of guerrilla warfare and revolutionary movements, attacking only soldiers and enemy agents, the cowardly Tories have ordered their soldiers to kill not only armed EOKA men, but to shoot at and abuse unarmed civilians, to rape women and destroy property in retaliation. Their actions reflect the British army’s inability to destroy EOKA,» said the proclamation. «Not even Hitler’s hordes violated human rights and the rules of war to the extent that the British have here. The Nazis were eventually punished. Who will punish the Tories?»
