EVANGELOS AVEROFF: London, 20 – Today’s Daily Express carries an exclusive interview with Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Averoff in Paris, in which Averoff said he believed the Cyprus issue could be resolved within a week. He said that he had had repeated meetings with his Turkish counterpart. «I can assure you we did not talk about the weather,» Averoff said, adding, «Things could develop very rapidly.» The newspaper’s correspondent said that relations between Greece and Turkey had improved considerably, to the point that the Turkish foreign minister had supported Averoff’s appeal to the British foreign secretary to stop the execution of two Cypriot patriots. FOREIGN SPY: Police have confirmed that they have arrested a notorious foreign spy, a Belgian national of German origin named Eric Goldstein, aged 45. He was arrested at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, where he had been staying after arriving in Athens 10 days ago. His passport lists him as a businessman. His arrest and deportation were requested by the West German government, as he is wanted in that country on charges of spying against NATO member states. He has been remanded in custody at the Averoff Prison pending an appeal.
