EOKA LEADER: In a proclamation released two days ago, Georgios Grivas (aka Digenis), leader of the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA) said the organization would fight on if their demands for Cyprus were not met. «When you shout that the terrorism must end if a political solution is to be found, your hysterical cries fall into a vacuum. What is delaying a political solution is not the Cypriot people’s struggle for their freedom, but the intransigence of (British Prime Minister Harold) Macmillan and (Turkish Prime Minister Adnan) Menderes. Our cards are on the table. We have repeatedly said that we want the Cyprus negotiations to be held in an atmosphere of peace and have shown more than once that this is our desire. We are now waiting to see what you British will do,» said Grivas. The proclamation was distributed in Nicosia.
