Criminality demands action

We can no longer afford to simply sit back and watch our country being gradually destroyed without doing anything. Local and foreign investors as well as tourists are following developments in Greece with mounting concern and skepticism after each new incident of violence erupts in the wake of all the others that have taken place over the past few months. The business community is already facing its own serious challenges due to the international financial crisis and is now seeing commercial districts around the country being wrecked by rampaging hooded youths. Each act of vandalism committed against a private business or a public institution and each outbreak of violence or incident of terrorism has a negative impact on tourism, as it undermines Greece’s image abroad, an image that has already been quite badly tarnished. The government finally needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility for what is going on with decisive action, while the opposition, in turn, must pledge its support for a national effort to put an end to the escalation of violence.
