GRIVAS BACK IN CYPRUS: From an editorial in Kathimerini titled «The Hero:» «Greece yesterday welcomed a humble soldier who for four years was a hero… Georgios Grivas, aka Digenes, of Cyprus, arrived back in the country which he had left four years ago to offer his services for a great cause and has the satisfaction of having done his duty. He returns a hero. Cyprus, his own homeland, is now free. The sacrifices were not futile. Cyprus is no longer under the yoke. A huge crowd welcomed Grivas, grateful to this great soldier that showed himself to be worthy of both his homelands, Greece and Cyprus. POOR WEST EUROPEANS: Vienna, 14 – The rapporteur for the Council of Europe’s social committee said the population of Europe’s least developed nations, which are the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Austria and parts of France, is 25 million and called for more job creation resources for the people of these countries, which are mainly rural. EDA: The administrative committee of the United Democratic Left (EDA) maintains that the forthcoming municipal elections are not just a test of political party strength but of great national importance. EDA is appealing for concerted efforts to unite all opposition forces.
