TIBET: London, 16 – According to reports from Kalimpong, India, pitched battles have broken out between Tibetan and Chinese troops 250 kilometers southwest of Lhasa near the main road to the capital in a highland area held by the rebels. The Chinese Communists decided in early April to take the position to enable them to launch an offensive against the rebels. AMERICAN RADIO: The US Information Service has announced that a small radio station will begin transmitting on Sunday in the Athens area for the US Air Force personnel stationed here. A similar station has been operating for the past two years from Iraklion, Crete. GREECE-ITALY: The general secretary of the National Tourism Organization of Greece has announced the signing of a 20-year contract with Italy’s Adriatica for the joint operation of two ferryboats to ply the Brindisi-Corfu-Igoumenitsa route. One of these will fly the Greek flag and the other the Italian flag. The Greek ferry will begin plying its route in June 1960 and the Italian one in the summer of 1961. Both will sail regularly over the season of high demand, beginning from April 1 and continuing to October 31 every year.
