Supporting change, not parties

Over the years it has become something of an established belief that newspapers foster longstanding loyalties to particular political parties. This belief, however, is out of touch with reality when one considers that the media – to do its job properly – needs to be independent. For its part, Kathimerini expresses its support for those politicians who show an awareness and understanding that certain reforms are absolutely necessary for the good of the country, politicians who have a solid plan for progress and the right people on their staff to implement it, people who can maintain their autonomy from powerful, shadowy interests. Kathimerini does not identify with any single party, large or small. In contrast, it makes a point of underscoring the fact that party mechanisms are those that breed the phenomena of corruption and political exchange, irrespective of their leaders’ intentions. This is why Kathimerini will continue to passionately support the changes that it considers as necessary and, by extension, the politicians – whichever party they belong to – who embrace the need for change.
