WEST GERMANY – SPAIN: London, 24 – A storm of protest has erupted across Britain over reports that West Germany is negotiating with Spain’s General Francisco Franco over the provision of military ordinance, storage of supplies, training for air force units and perhaps the installation of military bases. Both the government and opposition here appear to be in agreement that the rapprochement between Bonn and Madrid could entail dangers for the future similar to those during the Third Reich in Germany. The ultra-nationalist Daily Express carried the news under the headline «The new German axis.» The Labour Party issued an angry statement expressing its astonishment over this unilateral act by a member of NATO. DEATH SENTENCE: Ioannina, 24 – A military tribunal has sentenced Georgios Sozon and the brothers Vassilis and Michail Bairabas to death for their collaboration with the murdered spy V. Katsoulis. The brothers’ father, Apostolos Bairabas, who himself was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and a 10-year suspension of his civil rights, broke down in grief when he heard his sons’ sentence.
