Tourism is being let down

Tourism brings more revenue to the country than any other sector of the economy and one can only wonder, therefore, why the results of government policy in this sector are so poor. This year’s campaign has managed to be among the least effective in several years and there are certain government officials who are even trying to block tourism packages that are standard almost everywhere else in the world, such as all-inclusive deals. Meanwhile, this is a year when strike action has often shut down ports, airports and archaeological sites and the country’s image as a destination has suffered as a result. There are those in the industry who are doing their jobs properly and are benefiting. Unfortunately, they are faced with a government that is reluctant to take the necessary measures, such as abolishing cabotage, but allows certain groups to do all they can to scare visitors away.
