WE THANK THE USA: King Pavlos, speaking at the opening of the new water supply system in the town of Mavromati in Viotia, criticized the anti-American campaign being waged by pro-government newspapers: «I would like to add that a very powerful nation has come to our assistance and that of other countries in Europe. However, there have been a very few, bad Greeks who, instead of saying thank you, have been insulting that nation. That is what I am criticizing. This is not a Greek act. These people do not represent the sentiments of the Greek nation. I express our gratitude and our thanks to that friendly power.» ALLIES AND FRIENDS: Rhodes, 22 – Another act of piracy has been committed by the Turks who attacked Greek fishermen a few days ago just four miles from the Turkish coast. The fishing boat Nikolaos, registered in Rhodes and skippered by Ioannis Vasakas and Stamatis Pateniotis, Nikolaos Mandalios, Ioannis Flodzanidis, Michalis Kypraios, Rasim Kayias and V. Tsavaris, set sail on September 11 and was fishing within Greek territorial waters when they were attacked by a Turkish motor boat crew, who fired on them twice. The Greek craft was then approached by the Turkish coast guard who fired, striking Tsavaris in the legs. The fishing boat was escorted to a Turkish port and the crew brought before a court. The crew was acquitted.
