An idea for Europe!

Europe is divided and divisive. Its member states are moving apart rather than converging.

The European public is growing more skeptical. It believes Europe should be protecting people but instead it makes them suffer. It should promote growth rather than slow it down. It should be united but it is crumbling. Decisive leaders are absent and people’s doubt is growing. The next European elections could bring a euroskeptic majority in the European Parliament.

Yet the European ideal is still alive and hope is still burning. Citizens who believe in the future must save Europe. Old Europe finds itself in a deadlock and must be reinvented.

To foster the debate away from the decision-makers, Le Nouvel Observateur in collaboration with Kathimerini and several other media and European organizations are launching a major Internet conversation on the theme of «One idea for Europe.»

People who cherish the great European idea are invited to leave behind orthodox thinking and make their contributions to the debate.

Their proposals will be carefully read, studied, discussed and above all publicly presented during the grand forum that will take place in Brussels under the auspices of Elio Di Rupo, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Jacques Delors and Martin Schulz with the highest political representatives, the best experts and the busiest activists on the continent.
