Students envisage better state sector

A 19-year-old law student, Daphne Jovanov, won the first prize in an essay competition organized by law firm Karatzas and Partners and sponsored by Kathimerini English Edition on the subject “The assessment of state structures, institutions and actors in a modern democracy.”

Fifty undergraduates took part in the competition, with the essay deemed the best by an expert panel earning a prize of 3,000 euros.

“The students proposed that the tools for evaluating staff in the public sector should be the same as in the private sector: job description, clear set of goals, planning, results and accountability,” said Antonis Karabatzos, an assistant professor at Athens University’s Law School and one of the judges.
