Favorites make up cup’s last four

All favorites advanced to the semifinals of the Greek Cup in volleyball on February 16, with Iraklis, Panathinaikos and Olympiakos landing 3-0 wins but PAOK needing a tie-break.

Holder Panathinaikos was far better than Lamia and won 25-18, 25-21, 26-24 away from home, with opposite Boyan Yordanov scoring 21 points.

Olympiakos sailed past host Panellinios at Kypseli (25-15, 25-20, 25-21), led by Dimitris Tzourits, who scored 18 points, and Andreas Frangos, who recorded another 11.

League leader Iraklis had a tough nut to crack, but managed to beat Aris in three sets (25-21, 26-24, 25-23).

Yet the evening’s most entertaining contest by far was at Kifissia, where PAOK emerged victorious with a 3-2 score (25-23, 20-25, 25-14, 16-25, 23-21) over a side that has made an impression with its performances in the league this season.

The draw for the semifinals will take place on February 18.
