Panionios retains hope after draw

Panionios snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat on April 13, holding Savona to a 9-9 score, and maintained an outside chance of winning the LEN Trophy.

The Greek team hosted the first leg of the final of Europe’s second-tier club competition at Nea Smyrni and was trailing 5-4 at the end of the first half.

The Italians were very effective in attack at the start of the third period, taking their lead to 7-4, but coach Makis Voltyrakis?s players managed to splash their way back into the tie to eventually draw 9-9.

The return leg is set to take place in Italy on April 27.
