Xanthi, Nigeria defender Adefemi dies in car crash

Xanthi and Nigeria defender Olubayo Adefemi has died in a car accident a day after the soccer season finished, Greek police said on April 18.

The 25-year-old lost control of his car on the Egnatia Highway while on his way to finalise details of his wedding when the accident happened, police said.

“The Super League and the entire Greek football family would like to express its deepest condolences and sympathy for the family of Olubayo Adefemi who died tragically in a car accident,» the organizers of Greece?s top soccer league said in a statement on April 18.

Adefemi signed for Xanthi last summer and made 24 appearances for the club, scoring twice, and helping it survive relegation by finishing in ninth place. He has also played three times for Nigeria.
