Scocco leaves AEK for side in Abu Dhabi

Argentine sensation Nacho Scocco is leaving AEK to join Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, securing himself a lucrative contract and some welcome cash for the Greek Cup winners.

On June 7, the volatile midfielder signed a contract for two-plus-one years that will earn him about 2 million euros per season.

Scocco is the second AEK player to move to an Arab club after Ismael Blanco transferred to Al Nasr in Dubai.

It was only six months ago that Scocco, the object of desire for both Olympiakos and Panathinaikos according to reports, signed an extension to his contract with a get-out clause of 2.8 million euros.

Now Al Ain is determined to pay that amount and acquire the player immediately, while agreeing to pay AEK a further 600,000 euros should Scocco move to another European club before the end of his contract with the Abu Dhabi team.

AEK, however, has secured the services of PAS Giannina striker Dimitris Sialmas for the next two years, the club announced on June 7.

The 25-year-old signed his contract and stated, «This is a new start for me,» before thanking his former club for furthering his career.
