No stopping Tsiavou and Giazitzidou in rowing

Greece can harbor realistic hopes of landing at least one gold medal in next year’s Olympic Games, as Alexandra Tsiavou and Christina Giazitzidou showed once again their quality by winning another World Championship gold medal on September 4.

Tsiavou and Giazitzidou finished first by some distance in the women’s lightweight double sculls final at Bled in Slovenia, a victory that comes after they also collected a gold two years ago at Poznan.

A little earlier, the Greek crew in the men’s coxless four had finished second in their final. The crew consisted of Yiannis Tsilis, Yiannis Christou, Giorgos Tziallas and Stergios Papachristou.

In the men’s lightweight double sculls, the Greek boat manned by Panayiotis Magdanis and Lefteris Konsolas finished second in final B, which means that all three crews that competed on the day have managed to qualify to the 2012 Olympics.
