AEK, Olympiakos draw 1-1 and tie for first place

AEK held champion Olympiakos to a 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday to prevent the Reds from moving ahead of them at the top of the Super League.

Both teams are tied in first place on 10 points but the Yellows have played five games, one more than Olympiakos.

Kevin Mirallas opened the scoring for visiting Olympiakos after 23 minutes, twisting past Kostas Manolas on the edge of the penalty box and curling a shot into the far corner.

Leonardo equalized 20 minutes later with an almost identical goal as he tricked Avraam Papadopoulos an unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner.

AEK was playing its first game under returning coach Nikos Kostenoglou and although he would have been satisfied with the result, the match was far from a classic.

Olympiakos, which faces Borussia Dortmund at home in the Champions League on Wednesday, also produced a below-par performance and had defender Francois Modesto sent off in the final minutes after he picked up a second yellow card.

Grigoris Makos was also dismissed for AEK just before the end of the match.

A third team, Atromitos, also has 10 points. The Athenians grabbed a 2-2 draw at Kerkyra.

On Corfu, last season?s losing cup finalists Atromitos took the lead via a Thanassis Karagounis header in the 27th minute.

The home side hit back about 10 minutes later through a low shot from Dimitris Grammozis. Struggling Kerkyra took the lead five minutes into the second half through Tassos Agritis.

However, a piece of amateur defending 10 minutes from time by Kerkyra allowed Andreas Tatos to equalize for the visitors.

Kerkyra remain rooted to the bottom of the Super League with just two points from six games.
