Vouliagmeni women lose in Euro final

The women?s water polo team of Vouliagmeni played in its fourth Champions Cup final in five years on Saturday but failed to win its third European trophy as it lost 8-7 to Italy?s Pro Recco.

The Greek team was the favorite going into the final being the more experienced of the two and having seen off hosts Kirishi in Russia on Friday.

Indeed, Vouliagmeni led 4-2 in the first period, but its performance unexpectedly dipped from then on.

The Italians scored three unanswered goals in the second period to lead 5-4 as Vouliagmeni grew more and more frustrated in attack.

Pro Recco held on in the second half to win 8-7 and lift their first ever Champions Cup.
