Kone, Tziolis out of final Greece squad for Euro 2012

Greece coach Fernando Santos announced the final squad to travel to Poland for the European Championship finals on Sunday.

The two players to be eliminated from the team of 25 men who have joined the training camp in Austria were Panayiotis Kone and Alexandros Tziolis.

Kone was always one of the least likely players to enter the final squad, and his red card in Saturday?s friendly with Slovenia confirmed he would not make the cut.

Tziolis had a poor season and could not even get a regular spot in the Monaco team, in France?s second division, while his performance on Saturday did little to change Santos?s mind.

As a result the squad to face Armenia in the national team?s other friendly on Thursday and to travel to Poland for the Euro 2012 finals is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Costas Chalkias, Alexis Tzorvas, Michalis Sifakis.

Defenders: Vassilis Torosidis, Avraam Papadopoulos, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Stelios Malezas, Jose Holebas, Giorgos Tzavellas.

Midfielders: Grigoris Makos, Yiannis Maniatis, Costas Katsouranis, Giorgos Karagounis, Giorgos Fotakis, Costas Fortounis, Sotiris Ninis, Yiannis Fetfatzidis.

Forwards: Giorgos Samaras, Dimitris Salpingidis, Fanis Gekas, Nikos Liberopoulos and Costas Mitroglou.

Meanwhile, Greece?s Under-19 team has qualified to the finals of the European Championship that will take place on July 3-15 in Estonia, after scoring three wins in as many games in the elite qualifying round.
