First Greek medals in Paralympics are in swimming

Swimmers Aristidis Makrodimitris and Haralambos Taiganidis have won Greece’s first medals in the 2012 Paralympic Games, with Alexandra Dimoglou following suit in track and field.

Makrodimitris earned bronze after finishing third in the 100-meter freestyle S2 final on Monday, clocking 2 minutes and 21.04 seconds.

A few hours later Taiganidis added a second bronze medal by claiming the third spot in the final of 100 m. backstroke S13.

Dimoglou then finished third in 400 meters T13 with a new personal best of 56.91 secs.

Greece is taking part in London’s Paralympic Games with 61 athletes.
