PAOK suffers upset at Panelefsiniakos

Panelefsiniakos followed up its upset of Panionios with another big home win over PAOK on Saturday for the A1 basketball league, to give its survival hopes a boost as it has caught up with neighbor Peristeri.

The weekend that saw no action for Olympiakos and Panathinaikos as they are involved in the Euroleague playoffs in midweek, but had plenty of suspense in the other five games.

Panelefsiniakos capitalized on its home advantage to add PAOK to the teams the promoted side has beaten. The Elefsina team’s 67-54 victory has lifted it out of the relegation zone, where Peristeri has joined Kavala after its 77-67 loss at Kolossos Rhodes.

Fifth-placed AGO Rethymnou edged out Ikaros 68-66 to maintain some hopes for a top-four finish, while Aris sealed its entry in the playoffs beating KAO Dramas 85-73 at home.

Finally, Panionios braved the challenge of Apollon Patras to win 80-78 at Nea Smyrni.

The games of Panathinaikos vs Kavala and Ilisiakos vs Olympiakos will take place at a later date.
