Greens and Reds storm into semifinal series

Panathinaikos and Olympiakos strolled to home victories in the opening games of their semifinal series for the Greek league crown on Wednesday.

The Greens dismissed Panionios 84-61 at the Olympic Sports Hall in Athens on Wednesday afternoon to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series that leads to the league final.

Panionios performed worse than expected, allowing Panathinaikos to dominate the game from start to finish, leading by up to 32 points (79-47). The host also offered some moments of beautiful basketball to the 2,500 fans who were at the stands.

In its first ever game in a league semifinal series, AGO Rethymnou had a hard time trying to match the European champion in Piraeus, with Olympiakos easing to a 77-62 victory at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Wednesday evening.

After a tight first quarter (18-16), Olympiakos scored a partial 25-6 in the second period to take the game beyond the Cretan side that has been the surprise package of the season in the A1 division.

Games 2 of the two series will take place on Friday at the same courts as on Wednesday.
