Greece’s Eleni Daniilidou…
Greece’s Eleni Daniilidou, seeded 14th, suffered an early exit from the Wimbledon tennis tournament yesterday, when she lost to France’s Mary Pierce 6-4, 6-1. Pierce is only ranked 86th, but has been staging a comeback from years of nagging injuries that adversely impacted her ranking. The first set was close but Daniilidou virtually handed it to Pierce by double-faulting and letting her earn a match point. Daniilidou also double-faulted at crucial moments in the first and fourth games of the second set, which Pierce dominated easily. The early exit will likely have an impact on Daniilidou’s ranking.
