Badminton venue delays worry IBF

The International Badminton Federation said yesterday there was no room for any delays in the construction of a venue to host the sport during next year’s Olympic Games. The federation inspected Athens’s preparations during a two-day visit. Athens has in the past been criticized for delays in venue construction and has made efforts to make up for lost time. «We visited the competition venue and we were pleased to find out that enough progress has been made. The Badminton Sports Event is scheduled to take place in the coming February and evidently time is pressing. There is no room for delays,» IBF Technical Delegate Tom Bacher said in an announcement released by the Athens 2004 Organizing Committee. He was referring to the sport’s Olympic test event, a competition that is held before the Games to test the venue and, if needed, make any necessary corrections. Olympics badminton will be held in a sports complex being built in the Goudi district of Athens. (AP)
